In 1962,  he wrote to John Aitkenhead:

 1962 17th September 

I am sorry you missed the announcements of Dr Boyd’s death. Obituary notices appeared in the Times Educational Supplement of 7th September, The Scottish Educational Journal of the same date, theTimes of the 30th August and the Glasgow Herald of 29th or 30th August. In the Glasgow Herald there were also tributes by J.W.D. Smith and Ben Morris during the week beginning 3rd September.

I did not know Dr Boyd as well as you did but I had great admiration for him and there is no doubt that he left his mark on Scottish Education.
