In 1974 John Aitkenhead received the following letter from Alan Thornhill,  a British sculptor best known as the creator of the Putney Sculpture Trail, the largest outdoor collection of work by one artist in London.

According to an obituary by his daughter Anna, he had also created a large number of “portrait heads from life” – including the one shown below which he was offering John in his letter.

Noting the second last paragraph it is coincidental that Kinokuni Childrens Village Trust purchased one of the ‘heads’ through Chiswick Auctions, London in 2022. This sculpture now resides in John and Morag’s old living room!
